Foxton RSA Trust Scholarship –  Citizenship Awards

Recipients of the College Scholarship and the Primary Schools

Citizenship Awards for the year 2011-12-07

Manawatu College:    Emily Pond

Emily is going to Victoria University in 2012 to study for a degree.

Foxton Primary School:  Atua Okawhenuaroa

Atua has been an outstanding student from the moment he started at Foxton Primary School. He is a humble boy, helpful and always positive. He is popular with the staff at the school and all the students his age and younger. This is probably because he comes from a large whanua, He is the oldest in the Whanau and he has many younger siblings and looks after them. Atua is involved with all sports. He is a natural musician, and plays the bass. He is a member of the School Band. Atua is also the boys leader of the senior kapa haka team and has won awards in this field. Atua is a natural leader and we are confident that whatever he does in the future he will be well respected. It has been an honour to nurture him towards his future as a born leader. Oroua Downs School:  Dylan Lewis

Dylan has matured greatly this year and is always willing to lend a helping hand. He organised a fantastic fundraiser for our school camp and sourced prizes and sponsorship for this. He has many passions and commitments, one of which is rebuilding an old Prefect car. Dylan has great manners and works well with younger children. He is a gentle leader and hopes to be a Ministry of Fisheries Officer as a career.

Coley Street School:  Scott Hoffman

Scott Hoffman of the school’s annual speech competition, which is a prestigious award at the school. He heads to Manawatu College in 2012. He currently has a huge involvement in all school activities and is popular with the other pupils and staff alike. Scott’s future plans are to study medicine and become a doctor.

St Mary’s Catholic School:  Jayden Moore

Jayden provides vast support and services within both our school community and within the wider community of Foxton. He is a volunteer of the Foxton Tram Committee and will be seen most weekends aboard the tram. He organised a wonderful tram adventure and Teddy Bears picnic this year, to raise funds towards Christchurch. He raised $220.00. Jayden provides mentorship to our junior students and is a well respected and well loved member of our school. He is a true inspiration to those who have the privilege of working alongside him. Jayden will be sadly missed by St Mary’s as he heads upon his school journey to Manawatu College. We will miss his love, courage service and his true sense of ‘community.’

Foxton Beach Primary School: Hope Thomsen

Hope was chosen for this award as she has stepped up and taken on roles and responsibilities within our school, including services such as being a road patroller and school leader. She gave her time to the school to help teachers with jobs, and gave up a weekend to paint scenery for our production. Hope can see the bigger picture and offers to do things other children don’t want to do, as she can see the end goal. She gets on well with her peers, teachers and parents alike. She is often the ‘peace maker’ amongst other children. Hope shows a maturity beyond her age, and initiative that some adults don’t have. Hope embodies the sort of young person we aim to send on from our school and we know she will do well in the future

Foxton RSA Trust (Incorporated)

The Foxton RSA Trust Board was established on the 19 March 1993. Its purpose is to act as the Welfare Arm of the Foxton RSA – the founding body. The stake holders in the Trust are the members of the Foxton RSA.

Although not incorporated as a Charitable Trust initially, the Trust nevertheless has always operated as a separate entity to the RSA. It has its own IRD number and recently applied to be registered with the Charities Commission in order to protect its tax exemption status. The Trust became an Incorporated Charitable Trust on the 9th January 2007. It is registered with the Companies Office as such and its registration number is 1899726.

Since 1996 the Trust has supported the Primary Schools of Foxton with the provision of an annual citizenship award to an outstanding year 8 pupil in each of the five schools. In addition the Trust makes a Scholarship Award to a selected final year student to assist with the costs of entering tertiary education.

This year all the schools have indicated that these awards are very much in their planning and they wish the awards to continue.
